Surf's up for island surfing schools

 
(July 31, 2014) With head-high waves and onshore winds, the conditions were too rough on Tuesday for teaching, so two of the island surf schools battled it out ion the south shore in an impromptu surfing competition.

“This season the surf has been pretty big and this is the most I’ve ever had to cancel lessons,” said Gaven Norton, cofounder of ACK Surf School. “Our main ages are kids 7-14. We do get adults, but mostly it's kids looking for knee-high waves, and this season we’ve got a good amount of (big) surf. We’ve been able to surf a bunch but it’s always bittersweet, because it’s only a 70-day season.”
